Biography:
Annette Torrez is the Lead Technologist for Radiology/Bone Densitometry for the Presbyterian Medical Group in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She obtained her degree in Radiography in 1989. She has performed diagnostic x-rays, ultrasound, CT, mammography and bone densitometry. She is licensed with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in radiography, mammography and bone densitometry.
She also became certified by the International Society of Clinical Densitometry (ISCD) in 1999. Annette serves as the South Central Scientific Regional Representative for the International Society of Clinical Densitometry, which covers the states of New Mexico, Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas. She is a member of the ISCD Certification Council. Additionally, she serves as Chairperson of the Item Writing Committee for the ISCD. This committee has written all the new questions for the first and second new CBDT certification bone densitometry examination and also revised the international CDT examination. She has taught ISCD courses in Puerto Rico and the United States, and is part of the ISCD Leadership Task Force. She is also a member of an ICSD committee that establishes continuing education through the ISCD.
Annette has been instrumental in starting the New Mexico DXA Technologists Society and serves as President of the society. The society meets regularly to promote education and interaction between technologists throughout New Mexico. She lectures along with Dr. Michael Lewiecki, regularly to physicians, technologists and patients for the New Mexico Osteoporosis Society and for The New Mexico Osteoporosis Support Group. During her time as Bone Density Director for the Santa Fe Osteoporosis Center, she was responsible for starting The Santa Fe Osteoporosis Support Group. Annette has worked with the University of New Mexico on an Aging and Genetic Epidemiology Research Study that had been ongoing for twenty-three years. She was responsible for training many of the DXA technologists in New Mexico. Annette also assisted in establishing physician and technologist protocols and policies in her places of employment.
Annette is a member of the Shadow Riders Motor Cycle Club. It is an independent motorcycle club whose purpose is to assist the less fortunate. As a group they help by raising funds for the local community and charities.
